9.3. LEVEL 2 INSTALLATION

9.3.1. GENERAL
The provisions described in 9.3.2. to 9.3.7. are supplementary and additional to the Level 1 system described in Section 9.2.

9.3.2. LOW LOCATION LIGHTING LINES
The width of low location lighting lines should be increased by no less than 50% over provisions given in 9.2.9.2. to 9.2.9.6., or low location lighting lines should be provided on both sides of all internal corridors and along the entire length of the escape path.

9.3.3. STAIRS
Stair handrails should be of photoluminescent material or alternatively be silhouetted against a photoluminescent background extending not less than 50mm beyond the projection of the hand rail on the wall.

9.3.4. DOORWAYS
Doorways forming part of the escape path that should be used to exit the premises, should have their frames marked with minimum 20mm and preferably 40mm wide lines of Class II materials.

9.3.5. DOOR HANDLES
Door handles on doors forming an integral part of the escape path should be back lit by photoluminescent panels or finger boards.

9.3.6. OBSTRUCTIONS AND HAZARDS
Obstructions and hazard areas along the escape path should be highlighted by marking with black chevron photoluminescent hazard warning markings as described in current National and International Health and Safety Standards and where the safety yellow described is photoluminescent material.

9.3.7. HIGHLIGHTING BACKBOARDS FOR FIRE FIGHTING, CONTROL AND EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT
Photoluminescent backboards extending no less than 5omm beyond their projections should be fitted behind fire fighting equipment, control valves and any relevant wall mounted emergency equipment.
