Compliance with a PSPA Standard does not itself confer immunity from legal obligations.

 

CODE OF PRACTICE:-

1. SCOPE
This Code provides recommendations for the installation of photoluminescent signing and markers along escape and intervention routes in premises required by Health and Safety legislation to be protected with adequate emergency lighting. Furthermore, this Code provides installation recommendations that constitute a major improvement in escape path marking in premises not at this time required by legislation to provide electrical emergency lighting.

2. DEFINITIONS
For the purpose of this part of PSPA 002, the following definitions apply.

2.1. PHOTOLUMINESCENT (P.L.) MATERIAL
A material that, when activated by illumination with visible light from natural, fluorescent or tungsten sources, emits, for some considerable time, a readily perceived green-yellow light on removal of the activating source.

2.2. PHOTOLUMINESCENT (P.L.) PRODUCTS
Commercially available products having photoluminescent material incorporated in their construction.

2.3. EMERGENCY WAYFINDING GUIDANCE SYSTEM
A complete but discrete installation of photoluminescent material and products that provide direction, wayfinding and safety information, visual and orientation cues along escape and intervention paths in a building.
