3. CONSULTATION AND EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION.
3.1. CONSULTATION
Consultation between the owner and/or occupier of the premises, his safety
officer, the architect, the (P.L.) system design engineer, the installation
contractor, the enforcing authority e.g. the local fire prevention officer
and any others concerned should be arranged at a very early stage. In
addition to the specific provisions of this Code, it is important that
the requirements of National and Local Legislation which apply to the
premises in question are fully recognised and discussed at this time.
In particular, this should cover the requirements for means of
escape, fire fighting equipment, mandatory, prohibition and
hazard warning safety signs.
3.2 SPECIAL NEEDS
Special needs premises may require specialist consultation due to the
requirement for horizontal evacuation and safe refuge areas.
3.3. SUPPLY OF PLANS
Plans showing the layout of the building and of all existing or proposed
escape and intervention paths, fire alarm call points, fire
fighting equipment, emergency equipment, assembly points and indicating
the position of all items, structural or otherwise, which could offer
obstruction to either egress or visual identification of escape paths,
should be provided at the early consultation stage mentioned in 3.1.
3.4. ON SITE SURVEY
To supplement plans with a visual assessment of risk and potential egress
difficulty, an on-site survey with the consulting bodies should be arranged
at the earliest practical stage to finalise installation provisions.
